Synergy for preventing damaging behaviour in group housed pigs and chickens
GroupHouseNet
Getting started: European collaboration to reduce damaging behaviour in group-housed animals!
We held the second Management Committee meeting of GroupHouseNet on June 6th followed by a Core Group meeting on June 7th, 2016 in the wonderful city of Belgrade, at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade. Representatives of 23 countries were present and contributed to discussions of management and implementation of the Action. Key areas of focus were decisions regarding funding of five Short Term Scientific Missions, the location of future meetings (Belgrade in November 2016, Skopje in 2017) and PhD and postdoc courses (Belgrade in November 2016, Derio, Basque Country, Spain in 2017), as well as distribution of tasks within the three Working Groups. An important question raised by participants from the COST administration was how to encourage broader participation from representatives of industry, policymaking, general public and end-users. Now the scientific work starts with great enthusiasm. Enrichment in the form of speed dating and a social event proved to have positive effects on the welfare of the human subjects. We look forward to meeting again at the same location in November 2016 for a Working Group Meeting and Training School.
